Apple patent hints at possibility of Liquidmetal iPhone and iPad

For all its tough chemical properties and unusual capacity for intricate molding, Liquidmetal is apparently too uneconomical for anything much bigger than Apple's SIM ejector tool. However, a patent recently awarded to Crucible Intellectual Property (the shell company representing the exclusive licensing tie-up between Apple and Liquidmetal Technologies) suggests some progress has been made towards removing this barrier.

Google set to host press event July 24th featuring Sundar Pichai

Google's always cooking something up, and the company has our undivided attention when the press gets invited over for a breakfast featuring Sundar Pichai, the man in charge of Chrome and Android. While the invite doesn't indicate anything specific, we're expecting to hear some sort of announcement next Wednesday, when the event takes place. We'd love to get some more details on the elusive Android 4.3 or perhaps a new Nexus 7. Be sure to tune in Wednesday for all the details.

EU regulators say Google must improve its antitrust concession offer

The European Union's antitrust chief, Joaquin Almunia, told a news conference today that the commission had deemed Google's recent concession offer insufficient. According to a Reuters report, Almunia has written a letter directly to Eric Schmidt demanding that the company "present better proposals", following the antitrust inquiry into Google's search and page ranking behavior.

Google Maps 2.0 for iOS starts rolling out with iPad support, indoor maps (update: offline maps too)

The revamped Google Maps design reached Android last week; now, it's iOS' turn. Google Maps 2.0 is gradually rolling out worldwide for Apple's platform, and it's bringing the Android version's discovery and exploration components as well as some new-to-iOS features.
